This is a scarf that I knitted for my ex-boyfriend Nick for his birthday. He was a bit Goth, so the pattern and colour choice were very appropriate for him.
This is the first time I had tried knitting in more than one colour, and knitting a pattern, and using a chart. As it turns out, charts are quite easy to use. Somehow or other I miscounted the number of stitches I needed for the pattern repeats, and the borders on either side ended up being four stitches wider than I had predicted, but this was okay. It just meant that, because I was passing the white thread through the back for more stitches, it tended to roll in. I meant to sew a fabric liner onto the back of the scarf to cover and protect the pattern, but I finished the scarf about a week after we broke up, so didn't really feel like it, although I did still give it to him for his birthday, and he liked it.
The pattern that I based it on was a free pattern from the HelloYarn website (which can be found here).
