A Pair of Coral Earrings

As it turns out, I really quite like coral. Looking at this picture of St Cecilia and admiring her rather splendid hat, I noticed her lovely wee earrings, and wondered if I could get tear drop beads to make them.

It turns out that I could. They are actually a little bit smaller than the ones that she's wearing, but again, not going to quibble too much there. The tricky bit with these turned out to be getting a head pin narrow enough to fit through the teeny tiny holes, without fragmenting the beads. I had some beautiful head pins with decorative ends that would have given the earrings the little bobble on the end like in the picture, but these were way too chunky. So I settled for plain headpins. A trip to the chemist later and I had small plain gold sleepers to put them on. The entire project took between five and 10 minutes and was extremely easy, and has given me a lovely authentic accessory that I'm very happy with, and which I can wear with either my Flemish market clothing or my upper class stuff and still be appropriate.

I'm also actually wearing them in the picture with my girdle in it, not that you can really tell. These are fast becoming one of my most-worn items (when I can find them), and I've made several pairs for friends as well. They are equally appropriate for my upper class garb, and with my middle class stuff.
